February 14th, My son and I threw my husband a small party to celebrate his birthday. By now I think you know I love to throw a party, so seeing my son get so involved and excited each and every time I say the word party makes me love what I do even more. I wish I had taken more picture of his efforts putting this special party together for his father, it was absolutely adorable seeing him jump up and down in excitement.
A few weeks back I reminded Mason, “daddy’s birthday is coming” and asked him what we should do… He, in the biggest smile and his hands put together told me “party, decorations, cake, Jack, Maddie, Nana, presents.” He threw in the people he wanted at the party, adorable I tell you!!! When I asked what the theme should be he didn’t quit understand, but when I wondered what are daddy’s favorite things he said, ties (neckties). Hmmm
So I thought about his reference to ties and realized how much they bound over neckties. Each night when my husband comes home from work he sweeps up my son or my son follows up the stairs to help daddy get ready for dinner. In the process, my husband shows our son his necktie and then Mason helps him put the tie away. In the mornings Mason will run into our closet and go through daddy’s ties to help pick one out. For Christmas it was so sweet to see my son so eager to give his dad a tie. He picked out a purple one (Mason’s favorite color) and a red and blue one. <3
So I went with it! Neckties it was! Now for colors… Mason choice was “little blue and little red!” The rest was put together while Mason and I took our rides during the day. We talked about daddy’s favorite things in life (which later became a sign I whipped up) and daddy’s favorite desserts! So here is what we came up with 🙂
The cake! Since the party was a very intimate gathering for just me, my son and I, we went with a small 6 inch tall cake from Triolo’s Bakery in Bedford, NH. Love the three blue ribbons, with the “button’s” up the cake, reminds me of a dress shirt. The cake topper I made incorporated the neckties I had used in the other printables.
